Mongolian Naadam Festival Tour
Come join people from all over the world who come for this globally renowned festival
Although the event happens in Ulaanbaatar, every village and province celebrates the Naadam festival in their own way.
Just like Brazil’s Carnival in Rio de Janeiro and Germany’s Oktoberfest, our Naadam festival is our most popular and largest celebration here in Mongolia. Because of its significance and exoticness, we see more people come to take part in year after year.
During this three-day festival, there are tournaments of three traditional Mongolian sports – horse racing, archery, and wrestling taking place. The festival’s opening ceremony is the highlight with many shows and artistic performances.
Almost everyone dresses in their most beautiful and traditional outfits known as ‘Deel’, which are created in rich colors. Even though the main event is held in Ulaanbaatar, it is celebrated all over the country.

Itinerary
First day of the Naadam: Depending on the program at that time, you will enjoy the military parade, traditional costume show “Deeltei Mongol” and State Banner Raising Ceremony on central square. The first round of archery and ankle bone shooting competition takes place in the central stadium. You will enjoy a live Traditional Folklore music and dance performance before dinner. Discuss with your guide where to start.
Meet in Ulaanbaatar. You will go out with your guide to see the preview of the Naadam Festival. You will visit the horse-racing arena to watch a race of foals and archery, “Shagai” shooters. You can enjoy a national folklore performance.

Main event day: At Central square, 9 o’clock, Chinggis Khaan’s 9 knights will carry the State Nine Banners on the horseback and take them to the Naadam Court. After the official Opening Ceremony in the Central Stadium at 11 o’clock, stay around the Naadam court and enjoy 3 manly games: wrestling, archery and ankle bone shooting games. Get soaked into the holiday atmosphere, grab food and enjoy around our traditional culture.

According to the fact, The Mongols always celebrated The Naadam in the countryside. Today we will drive to the horse racing court “Khui doloon khudag”, which is located in west side of Ulaanbaatar. Be ready for the real experience and see how passionate the locals are when the racing horses rush into the finish line. Horses are our symbolic animals that we have been breeding for thousands of years. Racing horses are divided in 6 age division and you will see 1 or 2 divisions today. Discuss the timing with your guide.

From the initial point of contact to the completion of my tour, I had no complaints with Discover Mongolia. I had the pleasure of interacting with Shinee in the office. She was very professional and responsive to my many emails. We created a private tour, spending some days in Ulaanbaatar and an overnight in Kharkhorum in order to see Erdene Zuu. The guide, Odka, was great as well as the driver. I would highly recommend this travel company.
We took a family trip with our 20-year-old daughter for 13 days in August 2025.
It was a customized trip based on the standard "Discover Mongolia Tour - 14 days", as we only had availability for 13 days.
Northern, Central, and Southern Mongolia: from Khuvsgul Lake to the Gobi Desert. Ulaanbaatar and Terelj National Park.
The value for money on our Discover Mongolia trip was very good. We believe the price was very reasonable for the quality of the services provided...
This review is about all of Mongolia not just the festival. I enjoyed a truly great time. The Naadam Festival was the centrepiece but the friendly people, their love and care for the horses, cows, camels etc they own, the vast countryside, the modern centre of Ulaanbaatar with shopping malls that have all the big names you would find in the Dubai Mall, the dominating Chinggis Khann monument in Terelj Park, and communist-lite nature of this great nation is equally worth commenting on. The festival had a lively opening ceremony and firework dramatic closing ceremony. The national anthem appeared to be played in rock-style way but everyone stood respectfully nonetheless...
We chose Discover Mongolia after reading their reviews and they were as helpful and experienced as I had hoped.
Our tour included the Nadaam festival (which was the hightlight of the trip) and a trip out to the west of the country (Olgii) to visit the eagle hunters and experience the vast landscapes which were awe inspiring.
From the moment we were collected at the airport to the moment we left the country the tour guides were there to make sure that we were looked after. They spoke perfect english and the restaurants they chose were excellent too - You won't go hungry on a Discovery Mongolia tour!!
During the planning of the trip every email was answered quickly and their professionalism was very evident. I would definitely recommend this tour company if you are planning a trip to Mongolia.
Our experience with Discover Mongolia was positive from the very beginning. Zaya was incredibly responsive to all of our emails and questions (we had a lot!), and helped us make our own customized 6 day itinerary based on our time frame and interests. Even though it wasn't officially part of our tour, she went out of her way to find us Naadam tickets from a secondary source when they became scarcely available.
We got along great with our guide, Tugu, who was super easy going, talkative, and a wealth of knowledge throughout the whole trip. We really enjoyed getting to know him personally, and loved hanging out and playing card games with him at the camps...
I would highly recommend Discover Mongolia Travel, they are well organized, knowledgeable and above all care about providing the best service possible. I did the Discover Mongolia 16 day trip with the Naadam Festival.
Mongolia is an amazingly beautiful country, from the Gobi desert to the Central plains and into the the Northern Lakes area ,we were constantly surprised with the beauty of the country. Our guide Oyuna was so helpful and informative, she took care of our small group (9 people) to make sure everyone was comfortable and happy.
