One Tree. One Story. Endless Impact.
On October 10, 2026, the Discover Mongolia Travel team planted 50 trees at Gun Galuutai, a rehabilitation center for children recovering from cancer. The center is being built by the National Cancer Council of Mongolia (NCCM) in Bayandelger soum, Tuv Province. The planting completed Root Your Story, the campaign run through our 5 Finger Foundation.

The 5 Finger Foundation
Discover Mongolia Travel runs the 5 Finger Foundation to support the communities and causes close to our work in Mongolia. Root Your Story was its main project this year.
How It Began: SIOP Asia 2026
The campaign grew out of our MICE work. In recent years Discover Mongolia Travel has taken on logistics and event coordination for a growing number of major international congresses in Mongolia, and SIOP Asia 2026 was one of them.
SIOP Asia is a pediatric oncology congress. When it came to Ulaanbaatar in June, we handled hotels, venue arrangements and catering for delegates from across the region. Working with NCCM showed us how much children with cancer in Mongolia still need. We wanted to do more than support one conference, so we started Root Your Story.
Gun Galuutai
NCCM is building Gun Galuutai so that children who have finished cancer treatment have somewhere to recover and regain their strength, with their families beside them. The center is still under construction, and the setting around it matters as much as the building. Trees give that space shade, shelter and something living to watch grow.
Planting Day
Our colleagues drove out to Bayandelger and planted the trees by hand, with donors’ gifts behind every one. Many trees carry a nameplate chosen by the donor, so each marks a personal story as well as a gift.
What These Trees Will Become
Trees take years to establish, and that is the point. The ones planted this autumn will keep growing as the center opens and as children arrive to recover there.
- A softer landscape. Greenery will turn bare ground into somewhere calm for children and families to spend time.
- Shade and shelter. Young trees will in time give the grounds shade and some protection from Mongolia’s wind.
- A lasting mark. Each nameplate ties a donor’s story to a tree that will stand for decades.
- Growing together. The children will see the trees grow as they grow stronger.
Looking After the Trees
Planting is only the beginning. NCCM and Discover Mongolia Travel will care for the trees together, so that each one has the chance to grow strong.
Thank You
To every donor who planted a tree, and to NCCM for trusting us to be part of Gun Galuutai, thank you. We will share updates as the center takes shape and the trees grow.
