Foreign nationals who wish to visit Mongolia must obtain visas of appropriate types corresponding to the purpose of their visit. Nationals of those countries which have concluded visa exemption agreements with Mongolia are not required to obtain a visa if the intended period of the visit is not beyond the period allowed under such arrangements.
In order to apply for a visa, you must submit your visa application at a Mongolian diplomatic mission (Embassy/Consulate).
Tourist visa
- Completed application form
- Passport in original (must be valid for a minimum of six months before your intended travel to Mongolia)
- 3.5x4.5cm photo (the size of the photo is mandatory)
- A copy of hotel booking or accommodation information in Mongolia
- A copy of flight/train tickets
- Proof of sufficient funds, i.e. bank statements for the recent six months (if necessary)
- The visa fee is to be paid upon submission of the application. The fee is non-refundable.
1. Tourists who are coming from European countries where there is no Mongolian diplomatic presence are eligible to obtain on-arrival visa at the airport in Ulaanbaatar or Mongolian border points.
2. Transit visa can also be applied at Mongolian borders if the applicant is coming from European countries where there is no Mongolian diplomatic presence and has an onward flight/train ticket or obtained a visa if applicable, of the country he or she plans to visit immediately after Mongolia. (Transit visa allows for a stay up to 10 days in Mongolia)
Tier 1: Temporary 30-Day Exemption (34 countries)
Extended through January 1, 2027 (renewed December 31, 2025). Applies to ordinary passport holders, tourism purposes, stays up to 30 days:
Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom.
Note: the 30-day stay can be extended once, for up to another 30 days, by applying through the Immigration Agency (in person or at immigration.gov.mn).
Special case — South Korea: under the "Visit Mongolia Year" program, South Korean citizens get 90 days visa-free (not the standard 30), valid through December 31, 2026.
Tier 2: Permanent Bilateral Agreements (~27 countries)
These are separate, older treaties — not tied to the temporary program above, and duration varies by country:
90 days: United States, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru, Belarus, Serbia, China 30 days: Russia, Japan, Germany, Turkey, Israel, Malaysia, Laos, Thailand, Uruguay, Uzbekistan 21 days: Philippines 14 days: Hong Kong
E-Visa (for everyone else)
Citizens of 98 nationalities not covered above can apply for an e-visa at evisa.mn:
- Passport valid 6+ months, digital photo, proof of accommodation and onward travel
- Processing takes up to 72 hours
- Fee roughly $50–70 USD
- No need to visit an embassy in person
48-hour registration rule: all foreign visitors, visa-free or not, must register with Mongolian Immigration within 48 hours of arrival. Hotels and ger camps normally handle this automatically as part of check-in — but independent travelers or homestay guests should confirm it's been done, since this is a genuinely common trip-up point people don't expect.
A) Single entry-exit visa - US$30, valid for three months from the date of issuing. Canadian and UK citizens - US$55. Same day service (8 working hours) is available for additional service fee of US$30, and 55$US for Canadian and UK citizens.
B) Multiple entry-exit visa valid for six months - US$70; Same day service (8 working hours) is available for additional service fee of US$70,
C) Multiple entry-exit visa valid for one year - US$135; Same day service (8 working hours) is available for additional service fee of US$135
D) Transit visa - US$20, Same day service (8 working hours) is available for additional service fee of US$20
