Mongolia Winter - Snow & Ice Festival 4 - Days
Each February residents of the Huvsgul Lake area celebrate the Festival of Ice. The festival involves a great variety of activities and competitions, including Ice Sumo, ger building with ice, ice skating and sleigh rides, all on or by the shores of the beautiful Lake Huvsgul. This two-day event is also a shamanist ceremony of offering and provides a fascinating insight into the Tsaatan people's way of life. For a trip with a difference!

(Mar 01) Flight to the Huvsgul National Park

In morning meet in your hotel. Drive to the airport and we will have a flight to Murun, the capital of Huvsgul province (1.5 hours). Upon your arrival in Murun, a local driver will take you and will drive to Huvsgul National Park. Free hiking by the lake shore and skaters are invited to prepare for skating and warming up skate on the thick black ice of the lake. Non skating spectators would have a chance to see skaters or involve optional activities of horse riding, horse sledding, dog sledding and cultural visits to nomads. Stay overnight in Ger camp. (L+D)

(Mar 02) Ice Festival opening ceremony

After breakfast, attend Ice festival opening ceremony, Ice creation competition, Ice Sumo wrestling, Ankle bone shooting, and Shaman Ceremony and National Folklore concert. After lunch, visit Horidol Saridag Mountain to meet with a reindeer breeding family & explore their tradition and nomadic life. You will watch bonfire and sacrificing shamanic ceremony. Overnight in tourist camp. (B + L + D)

(Mar 03) Ice Festival and International Marathon

After breakfast, Reindeer sleigh event, Competition of horse sledding and reindeer sledding on ice of lake, Competition of driving jeep on ice, skating, fishing and lots of games, Lunch, Horse sledding trip on the ice of Khuvsgul lake. Horse riding trip along the lake shore. Overnight in tourist camp. (B + L + D)

(Mar 04) Flight to Ulaanbaatar

Today you will be driven back to Murun with your guide for your return flight to Ulaanbaatar to end your trip.  (B)
