Mongolia Camel Festival Tour

The Bactrian Camel Festival in the Gobi desert allows travelers a rare opportunity to interact with and learn first-hand about two-humped Bactrian camels. Each February the camel herder people of the Gobi organize this fun and exciting event, which includes camel racing, traditional music and dancing and costume competitions. Once the festivities have ended, travellers will be able to ride the camels and visit some of the unique sights of the Gobi desert, including Dinosaurs bones. This is a great opportunity to gain an insight into the lives of nomad camel herders and their families.

Competitions for the day include “best looking couple on camelback”, most adorable male and female camels as well as a camel polo competition which takes place in the central square. There’s also an exhibition of paintings by local children who participate in the drawing contest called “Camel– My Friend”. Overnight in the tourist camp. (L+D)

Day 2. (Feb 19) Camel Festival
The competition begins with a race of mature camels followed by the racing of the two-year-old camels. For your own enjoyment, you may place bets on the camels.  The first three camels in each group are awarded the gold, silver and bronze medals. In the afternoon, one of the most awaited competitions begins. This is called “The Camel Relay”, a competition consisting of catching, taming, training and, finally, loading a camel with an actual ger. There are several groups with five members, each of which have different roles in the contest. The closing ceremony takes place late in the afternoon when the winners will be presented with their trophies. Overnight in the tourist camp. (B+L+D)
