Hiking and star watching tour through National parks

Mongolia 's vast open spaces and range of landscape make the country a superb choice for hiking and trekking. Highlights during this hiking holiday are the famous Terelj National Park, Khan Khentii Mountain National Park and Bogd Khan Mountain National Park. The best time to hiking through the National parks is June and June or August. You will enjoy the beautiful scenery, eternal blue sky and night stars. On average you will travel 10-15 kilometers a day for 5-8 hours.

Tour itinerary

Day 1 Arrive in Ulaanbaatar
After arriving in Ulaanbaatar, you will be met at the airport and transferred to a 3-star hotel. After a light lunch in the hotel, there will be a program of sightseeing in the afternoon. This will include the National History Museum, where you will see artifacts from Mongolia and Central Asia from the Stone Age to the present, and an excursion to the Zaisan Hill War Memorial to get your bearings with a panoramic view of the whole city. Dinner and overnight in the hotel. (L+D)

Day 2. Drive to Terelj National park and prepare for the trip
After breakfast at the hotel drive to Terelj National park. Overnight in tourist ger camp. (B+L+D)

Day 3-5. Hiking through Khan Khentii Mountain National park
Three days hiking trip to Khan Khentii Mountain National park. You will be escorted by local guides and cooking staff. Enjoy hiking and photographing the charming landscape and wildlife. Your ultimate goal is to reach Asraltkhairkhan (2700m), which is the top point of the mountain. Overnight in tented camp. (B+L+D)

Day 6. Small horse riding trial and visit nomad family
Drive to Bogd Khan Mountain national park. Try out horse riding and visit a nomad family to discover their way of life, their culture and traditions. Overnight in tourist ger camp. (B+L+D)

Day 7. Hiking through Bogd Khan Mountain National park
Today we hike Tsetse Gun (2200m), which is high point of Bogd Khan Mountain. In the noon we reach to the summit and eat a packed lunch there. Then we will continue hiking to the star watching camp and enjoy Mongolian night sky and star watching. Overnight in tourist ger camp. (B+L+D)

Day 8. Drive back to Ulaanbaatar and city tour options
Drive back from the camp to Ulaanbaatar. If you desire you will be taken to souvenir and cashmere shops before attending a performance of national folklore. A farewell dinner and overnight in the hotel. (B+L+D)

Day 9. Departure Mongolia.
You will be transferred from your hotel to the airport.(B)

Tour highlights

Terelj National Park
Terelj National Park is the most popular destination and the third biggest protected area in Mongolia. Visitors can take leisurely strolls on meadows carpeted with edelweiss and a dazzling variety of other wild flowers, view fascinating rock formations against a backdrop of pine covered mountains and wander along the wooded banks of a mountain stream. The park is located 80 km away from Ulaanbaatar and is one of the most beautiful places in Mongolia. There are also a huge number of adventure activities such as rafting, riding, hiking, skiing, camping and mountain biking.

Khan Khentii Mountain National Park.
This is the native land of Genghis Khan and contains many important historical and cultural sites. The park is landscape of transition from Siberian taiga forest to grass steppe. Khan Khentii Mountain National Park is one of the Mongolian natural and historical treasures, declared by UNESCO as world heritage site. Khan Khentii is covered with forests, taiga, and mountain forest steppe. It is the land described in The Secret History of Mongols, a literary monument of the nation, and is a protected area located northeast of the capital city.

Bogd Khan Mountain National Park
The Bogd Khan contains sacred mountains and rock carvings, over 300 plant varieties, animals such as boar, fox, hare, wolf, squirrel, eagles and woodpeckers, plus a deer farm. You can also visit the Manzushir Khid 18th century monastery in the southern reserve. The Monastery overlooks a beautiful valley of streams and pine, birch trees, dotted with granite boulders. Established in 1733, it had over 20 temples and was once home to at least 300 monks. There are ample opportunities to explore the nomad's lifestyle and sample airag, the fermented mare's milk that is the traditional nomad beverage. This place is also ideal for trekking and hiking.
